Aaah Nice, the French Rivera, the city where the sun (almost) always shines, has a lot to offer. From its rocky beaches and its turquoise water to its picturesque streets, the list of things to do and see is quite long. Here are some of our favorites:
1. La promenade des anglais
The Promenade des Anglais, so called because in the 19th century it was mainly walked through by Brittish people, is a must-see when in Nice and should definitely the number one thing on your list! The promenade is 7km long and goes from central Nice to the Airport. Perfect to stretch your legs and have a stroll along the sea.
2. Château de la colline
The Castle Hill is located on the highest hill of Nice, between the old town and the port. At the top of the hill sits a park which offers a 360° view of Nice and of the Mediterranean Sea. To get there you will have to climb all the stairs to the top, (don’t worry there’s also an elevator so everyone can get to the top), but it is all worth it because the view up there is incredible.
3. Musée Masséna
The Masséna museum is a 19th century villa located near the Promenade des Anglais. This villa was donated by the Duke of Rivoli in 1919 whose ony condition was that this house became a museum of local history. This mansion is a must see when in Nice ! Walk through the wonderful gardens, visit the mansion and discover the different historical objects that are kept inside such as a collection of French art.
4. Le sentier du littoral
The Sentier du Littoral is perfect for hike lovers. This walk is made for everyone, old and young, sporty or not ! This off-the-beaten path gives access to a breathtaking view of Nice and its turquoise water. The walk is about 2h long and will take you from Nice to Villefranche-sur-mer. Best to do in the morning to avoid the heat of the afternoon, this path will give you access to a new side of provence.
5. Le Vieux-Nice
Le Vieux-Nice is the most ancient part of the city. With its narrowed paved streets, its pastels buildings, its small boutiques, its restaurants and its bars, the old Nice is perfect to wander around and experience the French Riviera lifestyle. There are many things to do in the Vieux Nice from local markets to museums without forgetting the Place Massena with its mesmerizing checkered pavement and its terracotta buildings.
6. Train to Monaco
Monaco is only 30min away by train from Nice, perfect for a half-day trip! When in Nice it is impossible not to go to Monaco.
Wander in the streets of Monaco, through the Exotic parc which is perched on a cliff offering a stunning view of the Mediterranean sea. Visit the Monte-Carlo Cathedrale, the casino, and the Prince castle!
